Practice to make a difference.

A Graphic Guide to Art Therapy

  • What are the core concepts of art therapy?
  • What can you learn from a drawing of a bird's nest, a collage or some scribbles?
  • Why become an art therapist and how do you do it?
  • What happens in the therapy room?

In the style of a graphic novel, A Graphic Guide to Art Therapy answers these questions and more. Art therapy and its key concepts, theory and practice are introduced through illustrations and text. Beginning with an overview of art therapy as both a practice and a career, it shows the routes to becoming an art therapist and what the role entails. The essential approaches, frameworks, techniques and assessment styles of art therapy are visualised and discussed, making this book the perfect companion on your journey as an art therapist.

Review:

This Graphic Guide is an absolute delight, covering the territory of art therapy remarkably well. It is refreshingly nonpartisan, and skilfully manages to be both deep and broad. Uniquely visual yet verbally thoughtful, it's a fine over-view of the field. -- Judith A. Rubin, PhD, ATR-BC, HLM Author & Filmmaker, President of Expressive Media

Treating Trauma and Addiction with the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model. A Bottom-Up Approach

    by Jan Winhall

In sharp contrast with the current top-down medicalized method to treating addiction, this book presents the felt sense polyvagal model (FSPM), a paradigm-shifting, bottom-up approach that considers addiction as an adaptive attempt to regulate emotional states and trauma. The felt sense polyvagal model draws from Porges' polyvagal theory, Gendelin's felt sense, and Lewis' learning model of addiction to offer a graphically illustrated and deeply embodied way of conceptualizing and treating addiction through supporting autonomic regulation. This model de-pathologizes addiction as it teaches embodied practices through tapping into the felt sense, the... More info
